what we believe

Our purpose statement:

MVPC is a community of small groups seeking to restore people into the life of God through Jesus Christ.

•     In essential beliefs — we have unity.
“There is one Body and one Spirit...there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all...”  Eph. 4:4-6

•     In non-essential beliefs — we have liberty.
“Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters...  Who are you to judge someone else’s servant?  To his own master he stands or falls...  So then each of us will give an account of himself to God...  So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.”  Romans 14:1,4,12,22

•     In all our beliefs — we show charity.
“...If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains — but have no love, I amount to nothing at all.”  1 Cor. 13:2  (Ph)

The following is an abbreviated form of our confessions.

1. We believe in Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, as the incarnation of the eternal Word of God.
2. We believe in the Trinitarian expression of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
3. We believe that justification is by faith alone.
4. We believe scripture is the inspired, authoritative Word of God, which is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
5. We believe that God, by His Spirit, calls people to faith in Jesus Christ and that same Spirit moves us toward living in obedience to the Word of God through faithful service.
6. We believe that faith is never lived apart from the covenant community, known as church, which orders itself according to the Word of God.
7. We believe that the world was created by the sovereign Word of God and that the history of the universe is controlled and directed by the sovereign will of God.
8. We believe that God calls us to be faithful stewards of the whole creation.
